Magnesium Citrate from Nutrivian contains 200 mg elemental magnesium per tablet in a form that is very well absorbed by the body.
The most important functions of magnesium are:
- Magnesium contributes to the reduction of fatigue
- Magnesium contributes to a normal functioning of muscles
- Magnesium contributes to a normal psychological function
- Magnesium contributes to the preservation of normal bones and teeth
- Has a function in the transfer of stimuli in nervous cells and muscles
The two most important causes of magnesium deficiency are our eating habits and stress.
Less magnesium in our food
Normally, magnesium is present in many vegetables and fruits, because they extract this magnesium from the soil where it grows. Unfortunately, many vegetables and fruits are grown nowadays on soils that are treated with artificial fertilizer, because of which they hardly contain any magnesium. Sometimes, vegetables and fruits are even cultivated on rockwool that results in even less magnesium in the vegetables and fruits.
Too much calcium in our food
The Netherlands is one of top countries in consumption of dairy products. Dairy products contain a lot of calcium, a mineral that is closely related to magnesium. Calcium is involved in tension reactions, such as tensioning of the muscles. Magnesium and calcium need each other, but the ratio needs to be balanced. Because we consume relatively a lot of calcium and our food contain too little magnesium, a magnesium deficiency is often quickly developed.
Too much acidifying food
Nowadays, we eat a lot of food that is acidifying to our body. Some examples of foodstuffs that have an acidifying effect to our body are alcohol, sugar, sweets, cookies, pastry, fast food, white flower products, fat, dairy products and soft drinks. Vegetables and fruits normally have a deacidifying effect because of the amount of minerals they contain. When the body becomes too acidic, it uses minerals such as magnesium that have a deacidifying effect to bring the pH value back into balance. The more acidifying the food we eat, the more magnesium we use. This way, a magnesium deficiency can be the result.
Stress is an important factor that can lead to a magnesium deficiency. The more stress we have, the more magnesium we use. This is both valid for physical stress such as sporting intensively, and mental stress such as work pressure and stress in a relation. Nowadays, we live in a stressed society. Therefore, the body consumes more magnesium which can generate a deficiency.
Magnesium as food supplement
Food supplements that contain a lot of magnesium are, apart from vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds, raw cacao and grains. Still, it remains difficult to take in sufficient amounts of magnesium through our normal diet. An addition to the daily diet through a food supplement is the ideal solution. There are many different types of magnesium supplements. Avoid cheap and hard-to-absorb types of magnesium such as magnesium oxide (with a laxating effect) or magnesium carbonate. Magnesium citrate is a form of magnesium that is absorbed quickly and easily by the body. Magnesium citrate from Nutrivian contains 200 mg elemental magnesium. 1 to 2 tablets per day is often sufficient.
When Magnesium Citrate is being used for the muscles, it can be perfectly combined with Nutrivian Vitamin D3. To use against fatigue, the combination of Magnesium Citrate with Vitamin B12 is ideal.
