Marshmallow Plant: True Marshmallow for supporting the Health
The Dutch name for this special herb is ‘echte heemst’ (true marshmallow). It has been used since the Middle Ages for promoting health. As we are not doctors, we cannot advise what the herb is or isn’t good for. All parts of the plant are utilised which means the use of true marshmallow is sustainable.
What is Marshmallow?
The marshmallow herb (Althaea officinalis) grows to a height of one-and-a-half metres and is hairy with a velvety surface. It has light-pink flowers and is fairly common in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Use Althaea officinalis
You can brew tea from marshmallow by putting two to five teaspoonfuls in a cup and pouring on water that is just off the boil. Let it stand for 10 minutes and then strain out the plant material.
Marshmallow or Althaea officinalis is also suitable for putting in a vaporizer (this herb - not the treats ;) ). Set your vaporizer to a temperature of between 150 and 200ºC.
