Yes, in the Netherlands it is legal to buy mushroom grow kits. In some other European countries, grow kits are also allowed. Other countries have no specific rules about spore prints or liquid cultures, but complete grow kits are not legal. With us, you'll find many ways to grow your own mushrooms. What you do with the materials afterward is your own responsibility.

No, that is against the Dutch law. That’s why we only sell the supplies to grow your own magic mushrooms.

Is it really green or more gray and fluffy? Is the spot large? And are there no mushrooms growing yet? Then the grow kit was probably contaminated at the start. It can happen to anyone. You can try to keep growing until mushrooms appear, but throwing it away is also an option. Green-gray mold should not be present when you receive the grow kit. In that case, contact our customer service.

If you followed the instructions and there’s no contamination, there’s nothing to worry about. Growth takes longer in colder conditions – that might be the reason. Try to keep the ambient temperature between 20 and 25 °C. Definitely don’t heat it more to speed things up. Be patient.

Absolutely! All grow kits can give you multiple flushes. Two flushes are pretty much guaranteed. Our record is 7 (!) restarts of the same kit. The last time only one mushroom grew, surrounded by mold – so see if you can do better and cleaner.

• Don’t forget to poke holes before starting – about 2 cm deep.
• Soak the grow kit in water for 8–12 hours before starting.
• Keep the inside of the bag moist during cultivation.
• Open the bag daily once you see the first pins (mini mushrooms) for fresh air.

For most cubensis strains*:

• Small kit (250 cc): total of 100 g fresh mushrooms across two or three flushes.
• Medium kit (1200 cc): total of 400 g fresh mushrooms across two or three flushes.
• Large kit (2100 cc): total of 700 g fresh mushrooms across two or three flushes.

Strains like Marshmallow or Penis Envy tend to yield less – but they’re also more potent.

For Panaeolus cyanescens (Copelandia / Hawaiians):

• Medium kit (1200 cc): Total of 50 g fresh mushrooms across two or three flushes.

Climate for cubensis mushrooms

All cubensis strains – from Albino to Thai – thrive in warm conditions. Here’s the ideal environment if you control the climate:

• Relative humidity: 95–100%
• Air temperature: 23–25.5 °C
• Cake temperature: 25–30 °C – but never above 30 °C. Growth slows above this, and the mycelium dies at 41 °C.
• CO₂: under 5000 ppm. Mushrooms, like us, breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Air exchange naturally keeps CO₂ down.
• Fresh air: 1–3 times per hour is optimal. Practically speaking, opening the bag 2–3 times a day is enough.
• Light: 12–16 hours of diffuse light per day, preferably blue (480 nm).

Once the first mushrooms appear, humidity can be reduced to 85–92%.

Shrooly

Shrooly is an automated grow box for magic mushrooms and other fungi.

In the “Manual Cultivation” setting, enter:

• Name of the cultivation: Choose a fun name.
• Sunrise time: 6 AM / 06:00 (sets when the LED light turns on).
• Photoperiod: 12 hours (how long the light stays on).
• White LED brightness: 60% (brightness of the white LED).
• Fan cycle period: 20 minutes (how often the fan runs).
• ON time: 30 seconds (how long the fan runs each cycle).
• Fan speed: 60% (fan intensity).
• Relative humidity target: 94% (target humidity in Shrooly).
• Category: No impact on growing.
• Notes: Handy if you’re experimenting with settings.

These settings are just an example that worked well for us. You can fully customize your own grow program for Shrooly. Maybe use one program the first week, and adjust when the pins show. Or maybe you want to grow Panaeolus cyanescens (Hawaiians). The possibilities are endless.
