What is a self-healing injection port?
An injection port is a rubber seal placed in a jar lid or grow container. Using a sterile needle, you inject liquid through the rubber, after which the material reseals itself. This keeps the contents protected from air and microorganisms.
Sterile work when growing mushrooms
When growing mushrooms, sterile technique is essential. Every time you open a jar, you increase the risk of contamination. Injection ports allow you to add spores, liquid culture or nutrient solutions without opening the jar.
Ideal for liquid culture
These injection ports are especially suited for liquid culture—the material we sell in syringes. Liquid culture can be seen as a solution containing the “roots” of mushrooms: the mycelium. You can repeatedly withdraw or add mycelium with a syringe without exposing the culture to oxygen or contaminants. This makes them perfect for advanced growers.
Use in jars and grow containers
The 13 mm injection ports fit well in metal lids, plastic lids and other sturdy surfaces. Combined with a separate filter (such as a gas exchange filter), they help create a controlled and safe growing environment.
Dutch-Headshop tip: when injecting mycelium into a jar, inject in as many spots as possible—preferably also along the edges—so you can easily see when the substrate starts turning white and the mycelium begins to grow.
