These self-adhesive PTFE filter stickers are designed for controlled gas exchange during mushroom cultivation. They allow oxygen and CO₂ to pass through while keeping unwanted contaminants out, making them an essential tool for anyone who wants to work sterile and reliably with different grow methods.
- Lower risk of contamination when growing mushrooms
- Better air exchange without open contact with outside air
- More stable growth and healthier mycelium
- Easy to use, even for beginners
- Self-adhesive and directly applicable to jars and grow tubs
- Durable PTFE material resistant to moisture
- Suitable for multiple methods (PF-Tek and shoebox)
Teflon filter disc 0.2 μm – ultra-fine
These filters are made from PTFE (teflon) with a pore size of 0.2 μm (micron). Fine enough to block bacteria and mold spores while still allowing air exchange. The self-adhesive edge makes it easy to attach them airtight to jars, lids or plastic containers. PTFE is also chemically inert (meaning it doesn’t react with other substances) and moisture-resistant, so the filters remain effective over time. 0.2 micron is better than 0.3 because the pores are even finer.
Growing mushrooms with PF-Tek
The PF-Tek method is a simple growing technique in which mushrooms are cultivated in jars filled with vermiculite and rice flour, then fruited after sterile colonization.
With the PF-Tek method, clean gas exchange is crucial during the colonization phase. By making a small hole in the jar lid and covering it with a PTFE filter sticker, the mycelium can breathe without contaminants entering. This significantly lowers contamination risk and results in more stable mycelial growth.
Autoclave and pressure cooker tips
We recommend applying the PTFE filter stickers after autoclaving or boiling. During autoclaving, jars and substrates are exposed to high pressure, high temperatures and a lot of steam, which can damage the adhesive layer. Condensation may also form under the sticker, temporarily reducing filter performance. Applying the filters to a clean, dry and cooled surface after autoclaving ensures optimal adhesion and immediate proper function. Work as sterile as possible to avoid contamination.
- Autoclaving means sterilizing with steam under high pressure
- Usually done in a pressure cooker or autoclave
- High temperatures kill bacteria, molds and spores
- Used to sterilize substrates, jars and tools
- A lot of heat and moisture are involved
- That’s why filter stickers should only be applied after autoclaving
- Avoid touching the adhesive side as much as possible
Plastic shoebox method
These filters are also ideal for the popular plastic shoebox method. By covering the ventilation holes with PTFE filter stickers, you create passive air exchange without exposing openings to outside air. This helps maintain better control over the microclimate during colonization and fruiting.
What’s in the pack
The pack contains 64 self-adhesive PTFE filter stickers with a diameter of 20 mm and a pore size of 0.2μm. More than enough for multiple grow cycles, jars and grow containers.
