Must-Try Cannabis Sativa Strains

Sativa weed is particularly popular with blowers who want to be energetic, cheerful and high. The rule of thumb is: indica strains get you stoned and sativa strains get you high. The exact difference between the two is explained in this article, but we would like to introduce you to the sativa strains that confirm this rule of thumb.

Sativa vs Indica

Sativa weed strains are known to get you high. An energetic high without losing the energy to do things. Sativa effects are said to occur mainly in your head and not as much in your body. These physical effects are, according to many, the property of the indica

We are deliberately cautious in confirming or disproving that this is true. Because there is so much hybrid weed on the market today, that's not always the case. So indica-dominant hybrids can also get you high and hybrid weed strains with just a dash of sativa in their genes can give you an almost psychedelic high. Sativa Effects

If someone asks our customer service or our weed seeds Wizard for a weed seed that will get you high, we do not blindly recommend a sativa seed. We also ask whether you have room for such a massive weed tree. Because yes, pure sativas can become huge. Expect them to grow to at least 2 meters and up to 4 meters.

The effect of a typical sativa is often described as cerebral: an expensive word for "of or in the brain". THC, the main psychoactive substance in weed, sets your mind free. This often results in becoming more chatty and other social behavior, as well as creativity and physical activity. But THC also has a muscle relaxing effect that has medicinal qualities. Therefore, especially with a higher dosage, you can still experience an often unwanted couch-lock. Then you can't do anything else for a while but lie on the couch.

The exact effect of indica or sativa weed depends on many factors:

  • Your experience with weed
  • Your expectation of the effect
  • Combination with tobacco and alcohol (with gives much less energy)
  • The strength of the weed and the amount of weed
  • CBD content (CBD moderates racing thoughts and the paranoia that comes with them)
  • Terpenes and other cannabinoids that enhance the entourage effect

So you can see that there is a bit more to selecting your weed seeds in the sativa category. There we simply select according to the amount of sativa genes. Is it more than 50%? Then we call it a sativa-dominant hybrid. Our Cannabis Seeds Wizard takes a different approach. He also weighs the desired effect, so it's easy to choose your weed seeds.

Cannabis Sativa Growth, Flowering and Yield

If you want to grow your own weed, other properties are also important. We have already talked about the height that sativas can reach. This type of tree is often only found outdoors in full sunlight. Sativa's are originally from tropical areas. That is why they usually have thinner leaves. With the burning equatorial sun a plant needs less leaf area to grow tall.

You can also choose sativa weed varieties for their high yield. On the other hand, they are often less resistant to cold and have a longer flowering period. Around 12 to 15 weeks of flowering is not unusual for a sativa.

You should also bear in mind that they will stretch during the first four weeks of flowering. Sativa weed varieties can grow 1.5 to 2.5 times as tall in the early flowering phase. This stretching should not be confused with reaching for the light when the plants are seedlings that receive insufficient light. This can be prevented by pre-growing your weed the correct way in sufficient light.

Haze is Sativa

One of the most famous sativa weed strains? Haze! Many blowers are lovers of a tasty haze weed. They ask for it at the counter of the coffeeshop, or look specifically for haze weed seeds in our seed shop. There are many different haze strains. They often have a typical sativa effect: cerebral, energetic, uplifting and motivating. So it appeals to blowers who prefer a mental high. Haze weed often tastes earthy, sweet, woody and a little spicy. There are an awful lot of haze weed varieties out there.

The ever-growing supply of haze weed is unstoppable. Just like the plants that fall under this subcategory of sativa weed varieties. So they should definitely not be left out in an article about sativa weed. "Haze" was one of the sativa weed varieties developed in California in the 1960s. Since then, countless haze strains have emerged with similar characteristics. From the famous Dutch Amnesia Haze to Jimi Hendrix's favorite Purple Haze. Haze strains are characterized by a long flowering cycle that results in large plants with huge yields. Especially the modern hybrids with "haze blood" can amaze you.

Sativa Strains to Grow Outdoors

Here we go! According to our writers, these high-making sativas are the crème de la crème from our seed shop. Are you going to grow weed outdoors? Try one of the following sativa strains:

Delahaze

This haze deserves a little extra attention. Do you think you've smoked all the haze strains at least once? Check out Paradise Seeds' award-winning Delahaze. This potent sativa can yield 1000 grams of weed outdoors. Just like other sativas, they need a lot of light and can tolerate a higher grow temperature. Delahaze is also capable of yielding 500 grams per square meter indoors. The clear and active high of this top seed will surely not come as a surprise if you are looking for an uplifting weed.

Lemon Ice

If we must offer a tasty weed, we choose Lemon Ice from Amsterdam Genetics. This sweet and sour cross of Lemon Haze and Ice not only has 22% THC, but is also very easy to grow. She can grow up to 3 meters outdoors and gives a pleasant, creative high when smoked or vaped.

Durban Poison

A pure sativa from South Africa by Dutch Passion. Because Durban Poison is naturally rich in the cannabinoid THCV, she is widely cultivated to create new strains that contain larger amounts of that substance. Her THC percentage reaches up to 26%. Enough to completely wipe you off the map. The long-lasting, euphoric high is definitely not recommended for beginners.

Painkiller XL

Well suited for beginners is this sativa from Royal Queen Seeds. But not becausePainkiller XL‘s THC percentage is "only" 9 percent. She has just as much CBD on board. That makes for a wonderful, balanced high without the paranoia that beginners in particular know from haze weed varieties. A penetrating aroma of fresh citrus and fuel makes her a dream to smoke, while her limited height of 150 centimeters ensures that she stays under the fence. That's pretty unique for a sativa that can yield 500 grams per plant! The limited flowering time of 7-8 weeks is also quite manageable as far as we are concerned. This means she will not end up in damp autumn weather and there is no chance of her developing mould.

Sativa Strains to Grow Indoors

What you need to know if you are going to grow sativas indoors is that you need a higher growing space and enough light. 600 Watt if you grow with HPS per square meter is the minimum. 1000 Watt is better. A combination of HPS and LED is totally awesome, but a good LED box with a clever selection of quality LEDs will do the trick as well. Tip: you can limit the height of sativa plants by using growing techniques such as topping, scrogging and LST.

Hawaiian Snow

With a potential yield of 700 grams per square meter, Hawaiian Snow from Green House Seed Company is one of the sativa strains in our collection with the highest production capacity. She is more suited to warmer climates, by the way, so that 1000 watt bulb will certainly come in handy. She has won several awards in addition to the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup. Expect 12 weeks of flowering and an aroma of tropical fruits and flowers.

Massive AK

Our private label Massive AK is an F1 hybrid. That means that she is derived from a first cross. In her genetics you will find 4 landstrains. The giant Thai, the strong Colombian, the high yielding Mexican with a short flowering time and the easy to grow Afghani. This makes for a hybrid with the best of not 2, but 4 worlds. Massive AK has a spicy, vintage taste and a yield of 500 grams per square meter in just 7-8 weeks of flowering. She provides a THC percentage of 21% for a strong high that, with just a puff of too much, turns into a lazy, relaxed feeling that she inherited from her Afghan parent.

Tangerine Dream

On paper, Tangerine Dream from Barney's Farm really stands out. Up to 25% THC and 600 grams per square meter in just nine weeks of flowering time. For a sativa, that's very short. We admit, there's only 60% sativa in this hybrid, but as we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the effect is exactly what you'd expect from a typical sativa. The uplifting and euphoric high of Tangerine Dream is fantastic. She is named after the psychedelic synth group from Berlin; one of the pioneers of electronic music. And for good reason, because the aroma is also really tangerine-like!

CBDenergy

With 15-20% CBD and less than one percent THC, CBDenergy from Paradise Seeds definitely belongs in this list: this is a must-try! Yes, it is a sativa rich hybrid with an energetic effect, but thanks to its cannabinoid profile it is a weed that keeps you nice and clear. No high, but creative and social energy that is characteristic of a sativa. A fresh aroma of pine and pineapple rounds out CBDenergy. Count on 500 grams per square meter indoors. Especially when using techniques such as LST, ScrOG or topping.

L.A. Amnesia

L.A. Amnesia from Paradise Seeds combines the best genetics of the haze family with kush for an irresistible weed with a huge yield. Whether you grow her indoors or outdoors. She has the citrus flavour of a typical haze and a long-lasting, intense high with up to 24% THC. By the way, it doesn't matter if you want to grow her indoors or outdoors. Indoors she can yield around 600 g/m2, while outdoors in mid-October you can harvest up to a kilo of fresh weed from her beautiful buds.

Autoflower Sativa Weed Strains

Did you think we forgot about autoflowers by not mentioning them before? Wrong! In fact, we want to give them special attention, because these autoflowering sativas are absolutely worth trying.

Green Gelato Automatic

Let's get right down to business with Green Gelato Automaticfrom Royal Queen Seeds, because this weed plant contains up to 24% THC at the end of flowering. She is a cross between the two potent strains Green Gelato and Girl Scout Cookies Auto, creating a sort of super hybrid. She even yields 450 grams per square meter within just 8 weeks of flowering. Count on a powerful, clear high. But be careful not to take too much. A narcotic effect might kick in!

Sugar Gom Automatic

If you dare to make a trip to relaxing indica-like effects, you should try Sugar Gom Automatic from Grass-o-Matic. This sativa-dominant hybrid yields up to 750 grams per square meter in just 7 weeks of flowering. The sticky resin she produces in that short period is perfect for hash, rosin or other sticky extracts. You may become stoned from her 15% THC and spicy, myrcene-rich terpene profile, but with a huge smile on your face.

Auto CBD NYC Diesel

We also have 1 to 1 weed seeds among our autoflowers. Auto CBD NYC Diesel  contains as much THC as CBD. We wrote previously that this gives a nice balanced and clear high without paranoid feelings. The yield is definitely not bad: 500 grams per square meter! Give her 12 to 18 hours of light throughout the entire period for the highest yield.

Auto Chemdawg

We finish the list of best autoflowering sativas with our private label's Auto Chemdawg A powerful weed with 20% THC and a savory taste of pine and diesel. After smoking or vaping the Auto Chemdawg you get a very strong high. An unmistakable uplifting and energizing effect.
