Dream Herbs & Lucid Dreaming

Can you imagine what it is like to control your dreams? Saying goodbye to nightmares, and start experiencing special adventures during your sleep. Control your dreams; that is what we call lucid dreaming. And yes, there is a collection of herbs that can help you doing that. Welcome to the world of dream herbs.

Dream herbs are special herbs that you take in or smoke to achieve lucid dreaming. These are dreams that allow you to exercise full or partial control over what you dream. Dream herbs are also called oneirogenes, from the Greek word oneiros, which means dream.

Why do we actually dream?

The reason why we dream, is not entirely clear to science. It may be we dream to process our daily activities. So the question arises whether it is a good idea to get our dreams under control. Hell yes. By gaining control over unconscious processes, you will feel you better control your daily life. Think of meditation or yoga, in which you try to become very aware of your breathing. Lucid dreaming is a similar form of mindfulness.

Lucid dreaming nonsense? Explain that to people from tribes living in nature, who attach great importance to the dream world, all over the world. The Aborigines of Australia believe everything we know originated in the Dreamtime. Some 65,000 years ago, according to indigenous Australian peoples, the universe was created. It was the time when the first people looked up to the stars and wondered where we come from. The Aborigenes’ Dreamtime is a period that is still happening, and which will never end. Therefore, they return every night to the time of the creation. It can be even more fantastic. When they enter the Dreamtime, space and time no longer exist. Dreaming Aborigines travel through space and time, and wake up with precious stories.

In this sense, dreams are an inseparable part of the original Australian culture. And they are not the only natural people that highly value dreams. Just think of the so-called dreamcatcher; the spider web-like artwork with wires and feathers that protect many native North American tribes from nightmares. Take the Hopi for example, a Native American people from Arizona. They attach great importance to the message being told to them in dreams. For the Hopi too, dreams are not tied to space and time.

Is Dreaming a form of tripping?

You may wonder whether experiences in dreams are comparable to tripping on psychedelic drugs, like on magic mushrooms or LSD. Well, if you read the story about the Aboriginals, for sure. Tripping agents awaken a part of the subconscious, by which we gain insight into ourselves and also come back with fantastic stories. Here, these dreams and psychedelic trips do share characteristics. The big difference is we can dream without taking in anything. But did you also know that there are all kinds of herbs, leaves and seeds that can help you with dreaming?

Dream herbs

Dream herbs can help you remember your dream and even control your dream. These are herbs that have been taken in hundreds, maybe even thousands of years, by native people that regard their dreams of inestimable value.

At the Dutch-Headshop we have made a selection of the best dream herbs on the market. Meet:

  • African Dream Herb (Entada rheedii)
  • Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi)
  • African Dream Root (Silene capensis)
  • Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
  • Blue Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera)

Calea zacatechichi

Calea zacatechichi is by far the best-sold dream herb. For good reasons, blogs on lucid dreaming often mention this special Mexican plant. Calea is not tasty. Just let us state that in advance. With honey, soy milk or a bit of fruit juice, the bitter taste is easy to mask. Still, the experiences are strongest when Calea Zacatechichi is smoked or vaped. Put a little Calea in your vaporizer before bedtime, and your dreams will become clearer and you can remember them better. Calea is also said to help with lucid dreaming. An all-round dream herb!

Whatever your choice, we have tested the dream herbs ourselves and only selected the best herbs for you. Herbs that actually did something with us. Help others by sharing your experiences and method of consumption in your product review!
