Blue lotus flowers, also known as the Egyptian water lily (Nymphaea caerulea), have traditionally been used for relaxation and rituals. The dried flowers or leaves are often prepared as tea and are known for their calming, mildly euphoric, and slightly sedative effects. This may help reduce stress and tension. Due to the low tannin content, the taste is gentle and the aroma subtly sweet. The effects are mainly attributed to alkaloids such as nuciferine and apomorphine, complemented by flavonoids and antioxidants. At higher doses, stronger effects may occur, including mild hallucinations and increased libido.

Blue Lotus Flowers

Blue Lotus Flower, also known as the Egyptian water lily (Nymphaea caerulea), is a fragrant plant from regions including the Nile area and has traditionally been used for relaxation and rituals. The dried flowers or leaves are often brewed as tea and are known for their calming, mildly euphoric, and lightly sedative effects, which may help with stress and tension. The taste is gentle due to the low tannin content and the aroma is subtly sweet thanks to essential oils. The effects are mainly caused by alkaloids such as nuciferine and apomorphine, both of which influence dopamine regulation. The plant also contains flavonoids and antioxidants. At higher dosages, the effects may become stronger. Some people then experience mild hallucinations. An increase in libido may also occur.

When combined with psychedelics such as magic mushrooms, magic truffles, LSD, or ayahuasca DMT, the experience becomes more dreamy and less clear due to nuciferine. When taken together with kratom, blue lotus may cause a more numbing, heavy, and relaxed feeling because of apomorphine. It dampens stimulating kratom varieties. For any combination, determining the correct dosage can be difficult. Possible side effects include nausea and dizziness, especially at higher doses. It is therefore advised to proceed in small steps until a pleasant combination is found.

Making Blue Lotus Tea

Blue lotus tea is prepared by steeping two to three teaspoons for about ten minutes in hot water at approximately ninety degrees Celsius. Add sugar, honey, or syrup to taste. Do not pour boiling water over the flowers for optimal extraction and flavor.
