The plant Salvia Divinorum (ska Pastora) is native to Southern Mexico and contains the powerful psychoactive substance Salvinorin A. The Mazatac indigenous consider the Salvia Divinorum to be a sacred plant. They would chew on the leaves in order to have visions, allowing them to cure others or predict the future.

Salvia can be obtained as dry leaves and extracts of different concentrations. These extracts are standardized. This means that a precise amount of Salvinorin A is used, something that can strongly differ in an unfinished extract.

Use of Salvia leaves and extracts

Soak the dry leaves (2 – 8 grams) in water. Afterwards chew them for about half an hour. The effects will increase slowly and remain for a period of 1 to 2 hours. The leaves taste bitter and can cause nausea.

For that reason, most users prefer extracts. The effects of an extract are almost immediately noticeable.  Although they last less (45 minutes instead of 1-2 hours), they are much stronger than the regular Salvia.

One can put 1/10 grams of Salvia extract under the tongue and leave it there for 10 minutes. The effects take place about 10 minutes after intake. At first you get relaxed, than the Salvia trance starts and it lasts about 45 minutes.

Comments on the use of Salvia Divinorum
It is important to smoke Salvia (extract) quickly and effectively. This can take place in a small bong or pure in a pipe. It is important to keep the smoke deep and long.
Chewing on the extract, smoking normal leaves and smoking a joint will produce little or no effect on people.

Sometimes Salvia doesn’t produce an immediate effect. The body has to get used to Salvia before strong effects can take place. An experienced Salvia user can achieve the same effect with normal leaves as a beginner with 10 times that amount in a Salvia extract.
